Rabbit in the Moon
Rabbit in the Moon
Original Woodblock print, limited run.
Though many cultures have perceived a jovial human face looking down on them from the Lunar surface, others have found a decidedly more leporidaen image in the visage of mother moon.
This piece was inspired by the many legends from cultures all over the world of a Rabbit in the Moon, and from the way that different people can look at something as ubiquitous and universal as the moon, and still see a multitude of very different stories in it's features.
"Touched by the rabbit's kindness, the Jade Emperor decided the rabbit was the bravest creature and carried the rabbit to the moon. The rabbit got the name Jade Rabbit because of its precious, jade-like fur, and lived on the moon, working hard making the potions of immortality." - Chinese Legend of the Jade Rabbit of the Moon
